SQL Server 2008 Report Builder: start to learn it!

Microsoft has finally released the final version of its Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder 2.0 RTM, the tool that every NAV developer will use every day more in the near future.

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Report Builder 2.0 provides an intuitive report authoring environment for business and power users. It supports the full capabilities of SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services and it permits to easily create reports (RDL format) based on SQL Server databases.

With few clicks you can build interesting graphs also (I've created in a minute a graph with a KPI of the Sales Order in my NAV database)...

Download it absolutely...

Hi Stefano,

Congratulations for your excellent blog! Always a pleasure to read you.

Quick one for you on NAV 2009. Do you know if it's possible to create new Charts? (Little parts we can had in Nav pages). I checked in the folder and it's seems to be using xml files and/or Dundee object?

Hi Jacques,
thanks for your words.
Regarding Charts in NAV 2009, they are stored in system table 2000000078 "Chart". You can view them with form 9182 Charts, or from Administration -> Application Setup -> Role Tailored Client -> Charts.
Charts are defined by xml documents which are stored as BLOB fields. You can export a chart to an xml document, then modify the xml document, and import it back as a new chart.

The rules that you've to keep in mind when creating the XML chart definition are:
- You must specify exactly one Table ID
- You can only have one X-Axis
- You can only have one Filters-element, but it can contain multiple Filter-elements.
- You can only have ony Y-Axis, but it can contain multiple measures.
- Measure operator must be either Count or Sum.

I recommend you to check this blog post:
