WEB 2.0 is the magical word that was the source of lots of discussions in the last years on the net: are we really in a second generation of web-based communications and services?
A nice definition of what is called WEB 2.0 comes directly from Wikipedia: WEB 2.0 is a knowledge-oriented environment where human interactions generate content that is published, managed and used through network applications in a service-oriented architecture.
Personally I'm not a fan of the WEB 2.0 concept but it's clear that the web actually has changed a lot, and with it also the way to share informations and communicate.
A nice design of what is WEB 2.0 is this:
Can you translate this concept into the Microsoft's language? This is essentially Sharepoint or MOSS, isn't it?
This is the source of a nice talk that I had some days ago with a friend... the Sharepoint platform is in my opinion the Microsoft's response to what is called "WEB 2.0".
Sharepoint and MOSS are not only a productivity platform for the enterprise, but they're also a complete collaboration platform (with blogs, Wikis, RSS, shared tasks, events, workflows, customizable user generated contents etc.) totally service oriented and with an open architecture (customizable via workflows and web parts).
Don't you think that this is what is called WEB 2.0? :)
