How to demotivate a "certification lover"...

With a big surprised, I've just read this news on my blogroll:

Microsoft Learning announces its decision to move forward with Prometric for delivery of its Microsoft professional certification and Microsoft Dynamics exams. Pearson VUE will discontinue selling Microsoft professional certification exams after August 31, 2007. To accommodate those who purchase Microsoft professional certification exams through August 31, Pearson VUE will continue to administer the exams through December 31, 2007. Pearson VUE will discontinue selling and administering Microsoft Dynamics exams after December 31, 2007. Additional details regarding this transition will follow over the next few months.

This sounds really bad!! It's a bad news to say that Micorosft will have only one exam provider!!

Actually, VUE and Prometric can cover the territory in an efficient way, by making exam location available for all without too much travels (and here in Italy VUE is significantly better that Prometric for my experience!). What happens after this decision? We'll have again a testing center in a near location or what?

I think this is not a good choice if Microsoft wants to increase the number of people involved on certifictions... if I have to travel too much from my location for an exam, I don't know if I'll take lots of them in the future. Too bad!!! A certification revolution (as Microsoft is continuously saying) can't start with a stupid step like this...

I live in a remote area of the southwestern U.S. - years ago, when I got my VB6 developer cert, it was 175 miles to the nearest testing center.
They certainly don't make it easy. I've heard of people taking multiple tests in one day. That would be brutal.

This is surely a decision that doesn't help people to be involved in the certification process.

I think they should include all the existing VUE sites in Prometric fold. That should solve the seat availability..

I agree with you Raj, but actually this is not the adopted solution. I hope that Microsoft will listen all the community that doesn't like this decision.
