Windows Vista is too fascinating and many customers are starting to play with this new OS.
Vista has a powerful upgrade installation that permits you to update your Windows XP machine without too many troubles, and this is one of the key aspects of its increasing adoption.
However, it's not always so easy and simple with the new Vista world...
I've many customers that have installed Vista on their machines and, when they start wor
king with Microsoft Dynamics NAV, the problem started. I've written in the past that Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0x is not officially supported with Vista and you can find problems when using the SQL Server version (due to an incorrect MDAC version detection). Here's a trick on how to solve this problem (unsupported).
Regarding SQL Server 2005, remember these things (thanks to Bob Duffy for the resume):
If you are running Vista, you need SQL Server 2005 SP2 available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=D07219B2-1E23-49C8-8F0C-63FA18F26D3A
In addition if you are running SSIS packages with scripts (and most packages do), you will need a hotfix available from:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/931846
If you are installing Reporting Services in Vista, you will get a message about "IIS Feature Requirement". This because the SSRS pre-requisites checks for IIS 6 and not 7. However, Vista comes with some IIS6 compatiblility extras that will let the install work. You will need to go into "Turn Windows Features On" in control panel and install the following:
