The new year is here...

This 2007 is started and this will be surely an year full of interesting news for my work.

If I try to to classify what will be the major revolutions for my everyday work, this is the podium:

 Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

The new version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM is announced with lots of interesting features, such as multi-company, multi-tenancy and expecially with Workflow based on the new WF platform (and customizable by the end-user). Will Microsoft be ready to dominate also on the CRM sector?

Visual Studio Orcas and WPF, WF, WCF

A big step on the future for the .NET platform. During this year we'll see the final releases of these platforms and expecially we'll have the visual tools to work with. Actually developing a WPF application is extremely fascinating, but the tool that increases the productivity are extremely poor. This year we'll show us something on this direction.

And what about Windows Workflow? This is a powerful platform that during this year will show us all its potential (too many people cant'imagine how workflow can revolution their business model).

And the winner is...

Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.1

This will be surely for my business the biggest revolution of this year. I've written here the 5.1 version (and not 5.0) because I think that the biggest revolution will be with this version (at late 2007 unfortunately).

The new 5.1 we'll be 3-tiered (IIS), .NET based (finally!!!!) and role-based (differents screens based on user roles). Unfortunately Microsoft has not released betas to partners at the moment, so it's difficult to say what we'll be the impact on the actual vertical solutions (and we've some big vertical solutions with NAV 4.x). The migration process we'll be easy or not? What will be the impact on customers? Dynamics NAV 5.1 is too much fascinating and many customers really wants a migration to this platform as soon as possible. Will be possible in an easy manner?

I really see an "hot" year...

About .NET based what do you mean ? The 5.1 would be adaptable only in C# and anymore in C/al ?

Jordan, absolutely not. Business logic in NAV will be always written in C/AL but during the compilation process the code will be translated into a .NET dll (managed code).
I've written several post in the past about it. A brief resume here:
