Microsoft CRM refresh for Vista and Office 2007

Fortunately a lot of news comes out from Convergence EMEA (thanks guys ) and so I'm able to say more details about a request I'm receiving from lots of my CRM customers: what about Microsoft CRM compatibility with Office 2007 and Windows Vista?

I've given a little answer in the past (after a meeting here on Microsoft Italy) and the major request that customers actually have is the CRM interaction with Office 2007.

The news today is official: Microsoft will release a Microsoft CRM 3.0 for Office 2007/Vista update few weeks after the release of Office and Vista RTM (obviously, be careful to evaluate the word "few", that in Microsoft's language is something like the end of this year I think ).

There are interesting details about new features included on this "refresh":

  • Use of the Office 2007-style ribbon user interface
  • Use of Excel 2007 data visualization and business intelligence tools
  • Support for Vista gadgets (you will be able to place CRM activities and alerts directly on your Vista desktop)
  • Integration with Exchange Server 2007 (including storing and tracking of voice messages)
  • Support for BitLocker drive encryption.

As you can see, this new release will be something more that a simple "refresh".
