It's the RTM week

This is not a regular week, one of the many, one that can pass without rumours...

This is the week where Microsoft has officially released two main products that will have a great impact on our business and on our everyday work: Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and Microsoft Office 2007.

The release of these two "giant" comes with the release of other interesting related products like the Visual Studio 2005 extensions forĀ .NET 3.0 and Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (or VSTO 2005 Second Edition).

Obviously, I don't think that .NET 3.0 will have a great impact on our "real-world" application in the near future, but having the technology on our hand now it's extremely important. And there's also a thing extremely important and (on my opinion) foundamental: the upcoming Windows Vista will ship with .NET 3.0 built-in, so it will be ready immediately for a new generation of applications based on the new platform.

.NET 3.0 will be extremely revolutionary on many aspects, so there's a question that I re-launch on air: what about Microsoft certifications? .NET 3.0 is out and certifications are based on .NET 2.0 and they're also on an early stage.

I agree that the "real world" platform now is .NET 2.0, but we've to start thinking on a more "number-independent" way of managing the .NET certifications.

UPDATE: another "last minute" interesting release: Visual Studio 2005 extensions for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, a set of tools for developing custom SharePoint applications (Visual Studio project templates for Web Parts, site definitions, and list definitions; and a stand-alone utility program, the SharePoint Solution Generator). Cool! :)
