IE7 release: what will happen to IE6?

As many of us already knows, Internet Explorer 7 will be delivered to everyone soon via Windows Update and this fact has generated 2 main questions:

  1. Will us be forced to install it?
  2. What will happen to machines where Internet Explorer 6 is installed? Updates will be available again?

Today the IE Team has give us the official response to these questions:

  1. No, you will not be forced to update your browser and to install IE7, you are free to choose if you want to install it or not (obviously, the update is recommended).
  2. You can continue to use IE6 and updates will be delivered continously (they will respect the product lifecycle of your OS).

This is a good news because I think that many of you (like me) have lots of customers that surely will not update their browsers soon.

Personally, I think that I will update my systems to IE7 as soon as it will be officially released, but saying that IE7 will replace Firefox in my heart its not so easy...
