Why the Microsoft File Transfer Manager?

There's a little thing that I can't totally understand: why on Microsoft's PartnerSource site (the Microsoft Partner's reserved area) if you want to download a file (product releases, service packs, hotfixes etc.) you have to install the Microsoft File Transfer Manager ActiveX control?

Is it really necessary? Ok, it's not a big work to install it (it's very light), but it's a control that is used only in this area so... why????

File Transfer Manager is also used by MSDN downloads and BetaPlace, at least.

And by using BITS, it does a pretty darned good job of downloading big files over flaky slow connections. That's important to those of us who might take 60 hours or so to do a single download of a major package.

Yes Mike, it uses BITS and it could be useful if you have a slow connection, but I think it could be a choice to install it or not (expecially now that broadbands are widespread). On PartnerSource, you are forced to install it or you can't download.
Thanks for your feedback

Its probably due to MS paranoia about there products being stolen.
As it is MFTM is a crap program. If your connection fails it won't automatically restart, instead it will wait for a user click on resume button.
I don't know who was the guy responsible for this design in MS but it is dumb to say the least.

And why would they need it in the first place? There is FTP for this purpose. But hey, if it can be run from other OSs (non MS) then its no good, it has to be invented in Redmond.

Some stones symbolize various meanings to people who wore them in previous times. Garnet is one such stone that is one of the oldest gemstones in history. Wholesale jewelry stores sell many types of pieces that include garnet stones in various shapes and sizes,
Chanel Bracelet 25
belonging to a family of gemstones that range in colors of every kind, except blue.
Gucci Jewelry Sets 10
The most popular color in a garnet stone is a red stone, sometimes mistaken for a ruby.
Cartier Silver Love Bracelet with Diamond
Garnets are found in various parts of the world including Africa, Australia, Asia, and Europe.

I feel strongly about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information?
