CS 2.0 RSS Reader is cool but...

CommunityServer platform (CS) is undoubtely in progress every day more and interesting features will be present in the next 2.0 release.

The last announced is the integrated RSS Reader that is in project now... you can subscribe a feed and read it entirely on the web, directly into your CS-based website. It sounds really cool but... will be free for all or not?

I'm observing that now that CS is becoming every day more popular, new features are added only as commercial addons (such as the new email system). I've a personal request for Rob and all the Telligent's staff: I can understand that CS is part of your business and I agree that cool features must be payed, but I hope that your plans for this RSS addon will be to release it also under a free version, integrated into CS 2.0. Is it possible? What are your plans?

CS seems every day more cool...

Hi Stefano,

Yes, we are a commercial company and do need to generate revenue in order to fund development and pay bills.

However, we're also big believers in providing people with tools they need. Our current plan is that the feed reader will be part of the "community" licensed version, but will be limited to a single-user. For example, if you were to run it for your own personal site you would be able to use it. To support more than 1 user would require a commercial license.

However, it's also worth noting that 100% of our commercial software is provided for free to not-for-profit .NET developer community sites. Furthermore we often donate our software for free to charitable causes, such as the many Katrina Hurricane assistance sites.

We expect to realize revenue from businesses and organizations that use our software for commercial purposes.

Thanks for this feedback Rob... Yes my question to you was to know is a RSS Reader version for a personal website (1 user) will be available and I'm glad to know that it will be possible.
Obviously, I totally agree with you that CS must also be a business for your company and that a more powerful version must be payed. I'm evaluating CS as a solution for some of our communities.
