The big
news is coming out today: Microsoft Business Solutions Navision 4.00
SP1 is out and big news are waiting for all Navision developers.
The core of the innovation is the new Navision Employee Portal,
built from the integration between Microsoft Navision and both Microsoft
Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft SharePoint Portal
Server. This new employee portal will provide users with an intuitive,
Web-based interface that makes it easy for employees to work with critical
business information in a more secure intranet environment.
In addition to this new employee portal, Service Pack 1
offers improvements in quality to Microsoft Navision through inventory costing
enhancements, planning resiliency and other product enhancements. New SQL
properties will be introduced with Service Pack 1, which will enable
partners to fine-tune the Microsoft Navision application running on Microsoft
SQL Server.
Other big news for .NET developers: Microsoft Navision SP1 supports the
latest version of Microsoft SQL Server (Microsoft SQL Server 2005) and
the new C/FRONT.NET dynamic link library will enable developers to build
external applications that can access the Microsoft Navision database based on
any .NET languages.
I think that this is undoubtely the first big work that Microsoft has done
into Navision with its hands. Integration with .NET and Sharepoint services is
extremely important and the sign that Navision could be a central part of the
business core for an organization.
I'm waiting to have the SP1 bits on my hand to give a brief overview of all
these new tecnologies together...
