A new Starter Kit is ready!

There's a new Starter Kit ready to use released by Microsoft in these days, the Shareware Starter Kit.

The Shareware Starter Kit is a sample Winform application of the common features that you can find in all shareware applications and you can easily modify, extend and integrate these into your own applications, such as:

  • Multi-threaded Splash Screen
  • Integrated E-Commerce functionality
  • Product activation
  • Product registration
  • Product Feedback
  • Exception Handling Reporting

Daniel Fernandez's Blog has more details about it and downloads are available from here:
(C# download, VB download).

I don't understand why they would deploy something like that (even in beta) using the .NET 2.0 framework that, as I understand it, isn't close to being released. I'm building several apps in .NET but I wouldn't touch 2.0 with a 10 foot pole until it is *at least* out of beta!

I know that for customer's applications sometimes is more secure to deploy by using .NET 1.1, but .NET 2.0 will be released soon (Visual Studio 2005 is announced for the 7th of November).
However, these are kits released to understand tecniques and be ready for the future of Winforms, so I love them.
