Instant Messaging: a dream (or not?)

I've updated some days ago my MSN to the new version 7 (maybe I'm one of the last to have done this upgrade but I'm not a big user of MSN) and this evening, after an entire day of work outside my office, I've decided to play with it (and with my contacts, obviously ).

During the conversations, a thinks comes in my mind: why Google don't launch an Instant Messaging service? I think that with the growth of all its last services (Google Maps, SMS, Google Mobile etc.) the giant Google is ready to launch a service like this.

Ok, I close my eyes for a moment and start dreaming... I'd like to have a powerful IM able to interact with other types of clients and protocols (such as MSN, Yahoo Messenger, Jabber), totally integrated with my Gmail account (login done with the same Gmail account, I can check my Gmail mailbox directly from the IM client, I'll receive real time mail arrival segnalation), able to read RSS feeds, able to interact with local Google maps (Google, do you plan to open Google maps also for Italy? ), able to launch Google searches, maybe with a useful calendar for reminders and alerts, able to send SMS (also on local countries).

Too much dreaming? Remember that Google is able to realize what you think impossible...
