Update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1

This could be useful, expecially for the SP2 Auto Update coming (obviously, useful but not necessary...):

Microsoft has released an update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1, a software that updates the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) to v2.0 and updates WinHTTP.

These updates help ensure an optimal download experience with future versions of Automatic Updates, Windows Update, and other programs that rely on BITS to transfer files using idle network bandwidth.

A better update life? We hope so...

Stefano,

I was prompted by Automatic Updates to download/install the BITS system several times yesterday (25 Aug 04) and every time it failed to install. The file size for some reason was zero k for the byte size.

Looks to me like it's not quite ready for prime time, and one can only wonder whether or not SP2 is going to be ready as well.

As a result of having trouble downloading the "update manager" in Avg 8.0 (free version), I searched for an update for my Windows 2000 Professional and the BITS 2.0 and WinHTTP 5.1 would not upload. I did a google search and found two fairly similar articles except that one says there is an update package for Windows 2000 while the other does not.

Is there? Do I need it? Does this have anything to do with AVG (a separate google search indicates that others are having the same problem as me)?

Thanks for any help!
